Abuse by Foster Carers

Following a landmark Supreme Court ruling on 18th October 2017, Local Authorities are now liable for abuse committed by fosters carers on children placed in their care. It applies to both recent and historic cases where a child was placed with foster carers by a Local Authority.

This is a huge development in our area of work and Andrew Grove and Co. welcome this decision. The ruling makes it significantly easier for those abused by foster carers to make a claim for compensation against the Local Authority and ultimately hold them to account. Where a Local Authority recruits, trains and pays for foster carers to look after children, it is clear that the Local Authority have to be held to account when a child is abused in that placement.
